My family tends to vacation near wherever we live, which when you move every few years tends to lead to some interesting vacations. I’ve endured horse-drawn carriage rides through the snow (which is not as pleasant as it sounds) and spent time on a cheese farm in the Netherlands. My favorite vacations have been island-hopping when my father was stationed in Hawaii. I’m back on Oahu for about a week, so I thought I’d write a packing list for tropical adventures.
What To Pack:
-your swimsuit; this is the number one priority!
-your sunglasses and sunscreen; seriously don’t forget these
-comfortable shoes: open-toe flats, sandals, and flip flips; waterproof is also smart
-one pair of heels; I often don’t pack any heels at all on vacations, but one pair for nights out is wise
-sundresses and shorts
-bright colors; dress for your environment and avoid dark colors that attract heat
-tote bags; for all your beach necessities
-a hiking outfit; good walking shoes, an old tee, etc; it’s great to get off the beaten path and see things like seals or waterfalls
-aloe vera; you might bring your sunscreen, but you might still burn!
-your camera
-pack light: always, always leave room in your suitcase for souvenirs
Packing for a tropical vacation is easy, because you don’t need a ton of layers or preparation. Best of all vacations somewhere tropical are usually relaxing!
